Best Site for Seed Starters
I love this system! it’s easy to use, and almost every seed I planted germinated! The lid is a bit flimsy, but that didn’t hinder my plants growth. One thing I particularly like about this is that you only have to water it once or twice a week in the bottom pan, and it keeps the little seedlings moist, so you don’t have to worry about going away for a long weekend. Also, you should know that they do sell refill soil pellets at Home Depot (and I’m sure other stores) so you can reuse this system. In fact, I even started to reuse it in the same season once I removed a few of the seedings to thin them out. Last summer I spent close to $200 on pre-grown seedlings, and this year, I have 15 varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers, for only the cost of the seeds and this system.
The only thing you should know is that you should try to plant varieties that germinate at the same pace in this system, which I didn’t do, so I had to remove the lid once the lettuce had reached the lid, while the cilantro hadn’t even popped out yet. However, the cilantro did end up growing and being just fine, so that’s not too much of a prob. In case you can’t tell, I love this thing.
I recommend putting it on a sunny window ledge and then planting them outside at the beginning of summer. This system is not meant to be the end resting point for these seedlings – they will outgrow it in a month or two so you do need to replant. If you are looking to keep whatever it is that you’re growing indoors, you are prob better off just planting it in a pot and covering with saran wrap till it pops out. that way you don’t have to transplant.
