We are off the grid and when it gets dark, it gets very dark. The rock provides good lighting of our porch and door and makes it much easier to find the key hole. It's not extremely bright, but it is enough to light a small statue. It stays lit most of the night if not all night. I happened to check it at 4 am and it was still lit. I am very happy with it. That's why I gave it 3 stars instead of one. I wasn't expecting it to be bright - just wanted a faint light to shine on a tree trunk less than a foot away. But it gives off so little light that we can't see it shining on anything at all, even on the darkest night. The light comes on as the instructions say it's supposed to, but it's not bright enough in my yard to give off enough light to even see that it's on (I had to walk around it and look directly at the bulbs to know that it was on), even though it's not near other lights, and it gets as much sun as the instructions call for. I don't think it's defective, just maybe that 4 LEDs must just not be as bright as I had hoped (although my 4 LED flashlight is extremely bright), or maybe that the solar power unit is not as strong in this as in other applications. Whatever the reason, I would not buy this product again, although I would not hesitate to buy from this seller again. I did not return it or contact the seller about the problem because it was several months after purchase before I tried it out.
